The service that I received at Witton Lane station in Birmingham following Aston Villa vs Manchester United was incredible.

I returned to Villa Park using the rail network for the first time today following my meetings with officials from West Midlands Trains in November and December last year.

I’ve been supporting the organisations Accessibility Strategy Manager by providing my views on where signage for the platforms at Witton Lane station in Birmingham, should be located.

The plans to put both floor markings and wall signs on each of the platforms at Witton, indicating where those requiring mobility assistance are to wait for that assistance to arrive on match-days has been executed to perfection by the team at WMT (West Midlands Trains).

I was both excited and pleased to see the signage in place when I visited the station this afternoon when I attended Aston Villa’s home league match with Manchester United at Villa Park.

I was delighted to see that staff from WMT (West Midlands Trains) had made a note that I was making a return journey from Witton upon my arrival at the station prior kick off.

When I returned to Witton just before the full time whistle I was met by stewards at the entrance to the station who informed platform staff on my arrival so that they were aware that I needed assistance to board the train.

I have been campaigning on behalf of Aston Villa’s disabled supporters who use the station when attending matches for a number of months now so I am delighted to see these changes because it shows that all of my hard has paid off.

I have a simple message to all of the Villa fans who use the rail network on match-days and complete there journey at Witton Lane station, Please remember that the wheelchair users using the network to get home from matches will require access to the boxes on each of the platforms. They are there to ensure that we can be seen and accessed by the senior conductor once the train has arrived at the station.

I have spent a lot of time in recent months blogging about how my campaign unfolded because I wanted to shout about one of the biggest successes that I’ve had since starting my campaign work in 2016.

I have gone on to write several blogs about my campaign, which can be accessed below if you wish to check them out:

I know that this is a very long and boring blog that contains a lot of content, however I felt that was important to blog about the changes that West Midlands Trains have made to there match-day processes at Witton now that they have been completed.
