Accessibility signage locations found at Witton Lane Station in Birmingham

I travelled to Witton Lane station in Birmingham this morning (Tuesday 19th of December, 2023) to help officials from WMT (West Midlands Trains) determine where to locate accessibility signage on the platforms.

This morning’s meeting involved WMT’s Accessibility Strategy Manager, the Station Manager for Witton Lane & the organisations Property Manager, I was invited to attend the meeting as a West Midlands Trains service user.

When I met with officials from West Midlands Trains (WMT) at the end of last month to discuss the challenges that I face when using the rail network as a wheelchair user on match-days, it was agreed that signage indicating where we are to wait on the platforms for assistance would help to solve an issue.

There was much deliberation on both platforms at the station about where to best locate both sets of signage and it was finally decided that it would be best placed for the signage to be near to where the ramps are usually found on the platforms.

I am delighted with the locations chosen for the signage that the station because we will be able to see it from either end of the both platforms.

I am excited to see it in place when I attend matches at Villa Park during 2024 because it will make mine and others experience so much better when we use the rail network to attend football matches.

I have written a number of blog throughout the year about this issue and have included the links to them below.
